Mat Fraser returned to competition to test himself in Hyrox, a discipline that is growing in popularity—though many CrossFit fans are not fond of it. Ultimately, it’s physical activity, and the five-time CrossFit Games champion had to give it a shot.

The retired athlete ran alongside his friend Matt O’Keefe, and unsurprisingly, his presence did not go unnoticed in Las Vegas, Nevada, the venue where the race took place.

How long did Fraser and O’Keefe take to finish?

The duo competed in the doubles category for ages 40-49, a division based on the combined average age of both participants. They completed the race in 1:08:02, finishing in 12th place in their category.

What Is Hyrox, and Is It Better Than CrossFit?

This means that the man once considered the Fittest on Earth was outperformed by 11 other teams, though the difference wasn’t too significant.

It’s also important to note that this was a team event, meaning Fraser’s performance also depended on his partner’s contribution.

Another CrossFit legend transitions to Hyrox

Tia-Clair Toomey, the most decorated female athlete in CrossFit Games history, has already competed in Hyrox. Now, Fraser joins the trend—but he’s not alone. The most recent CrossFit Games champion, James Sprague, also took on the challenge this past weekend in Las Vegas.

Will More Elite Athletes Turn to HYROX?

Justin Medeiros and Ellie Turner competed in the Mixed Doubles division, as did Emily Rethwill and Phillip Muscarella.
